Stillness Corner

Collective Sonson, 2020

For long, a spiritual corner is an essential part of every Vietnamese house, whether in humble apartments or in huge mansions. This particular space is often reserved for worshipping - daily rituals to communicate with ancestor and the gods. However, with modern day’s ever changing and hectic lifestyle, spiritual habituation also embodies being still to preserve balance and return to our innerselves. Collective Sonson presents Stillness Corner - a space specializes for the stillness and meeting of the body and mind, infused in the trinity of Human – Nature – Spirit.

Collaborating with artisans and local communities, Sonson regenerates everyday traditional Vietnamese furniture - rattan mat, tea table and light screens - into modular designs that are easy to re-assemble and adapt to different spaces.

Half visible and half obscure, the light is permeated through a thin veil of gradient indigo-dyed silk, suggesting a poetic landscape of mountains. This veils away the hustle, a space quiet enough to turn inwards yet open enough to stay in touch with others.
