Mimos - to hug the space between us
Community installation
San Potito, Italy, 2024
As part of Fatelab's Creative Living Labs Artist Residency
Mimos (in Spanish) means to cuddle or to pamper. Built under the weeping willow tree, Mimos is a cocoon offering consolation and coziness for those in need. Shaped like a bird’s nest or the mother’s womb, Mimos invites us to come back to a restful state, or a child-like state. This is a space to get closer, to be open for conversation and hug, to close the gap between being an adult and being a child. Inside this nest, you can take a short nap, read a book, watch the sunset or simply share stories you wouldn’t have found an opportunity to share in daily life.

Made with fallen branches from Lago Matese and upcycled woods, each is carefully woven and has its own place in the nest - which keeps the structure strong and flexible at the same time. Symbolically, this represents a healthy community with each being the support for the other, and not one is more or less important. In the process of weaving Mimos and finding my place within the San Potito community, I received support from many locals. From Mimos, I hope you find the same support, kindness, connection and joy I had as it was woven into life.

Materials collected from Antonio's forest garden, Matese regional park, with support of from my local friends.

Mismo is built within the village's community park for all residents to enjoy.
