“from Land” is a collective work of performative installation that explores the continuous creative process between the artist and the audience. Instead of “Do not touch”, we encourage the audience to reinterpret the works by interacting/moving with/sensing/making new stories. The result is a 20-min improvised performance by both artists and the audience-turned-performers.
These sensorial installations were created with what was available from the land itself: from natural fibers, algae and river stones to abandoned pots and trays found from the storage. We wove them with our own direct experience of the lands and the rivers, with memories of the encounters fresh and strong in us. Playing with the themes of Tension, Release, Gravity, Flow, we co-curated a space of/for fluid meaning and welcomed new meaning being made, objects interchangeable.
The process organically took place without much guidance from the creators. This poses questions of extending this invitation to the public audience. To what extent can we invite the general audience to take part in our works? If so, how do we set the intention and hold the space for such collaboration to happen, to minimize confusion and expectation?
