Nature, the Arts and Improvisation
2021 - ongoing
Started as a 4-day intensive camp for a group of artists (IndigoHome collective, Kontum, Vietnam), "Nature, the Arts and Improvisation" spontaneously grew into a week of art-making across fields: movement, sound, poetry and visuals.

The project explores the freedom of self-expression in the context of human interaction. Based from principles of Contact Improvisation (touching, sensing, relating, rolling, spiraling, contracting, expanding...), we co-created not just dance moves but creative ways to share the space, both indoors and in nature. Here, the outcomes are not merely performance and paintings but a sense of understanding oneself in the larger body of community and the Earth.

Nature - the open field was our playground for exploring sound and movement: walking meditation, five ways of touching a non-human being, ways of touching ourselves, ways of touching others. This also serves as the material/inspiration for visuals and poetry improvisation.

Improvised drawing with music and movement. Inquiring questions were thrown in to open the space for deeper introspection. The finished roll was then deconstructed and made into artist book and materials for impromptu performance.

My role as a space holder:
-
invite inquiring questions.
-
observe and notice the ebbs and flows of the collective artistic surge. Change the pace or throw in ingredients (music, movement, self-reflection...) as needed.
-
circle back to Nature with grounding practices (walking meditation, authentic movement...).
